Make Your Own Bookmarks
If you feel industrious and are not inclined to purchase bookmarks at the store, then you should attempt to make your own bookmarks.
There are many ways to create a bookmark, ranging from as simple as
using a ripped piece of paper to fashioning artistically designed
beaded or photo bookmarks.
To make your own bookmarks from photos, it is best to use a digital camera
to store photos to your personal computer. Once you have saved the
image you would like to display on your bookmark to your computer, crop
the photo or resize it to be about an inch to two inches in width and
about six inches long. In most cases, this will distort the image.
Instead, you may want to use a collage of cropped images for your
bookmark. Generally, designing and editing these images will require a
photo editing program, like Adobe Photoshop,
on the computer, so be sure to have one installed before undertaking
this task. Then, after the image or images are sized correctly and the
design of the bookmark is finalized, print out the bookmark on photo
quality paper. Simply cut out the bookmark design and the project is
done. Otherwise, laminating the bookmark may help to increase its durability and maintain the quality of its appearance.
A beaded bookmark
is another alternative if you are looking to make your own bookmarks.
This craft is relatively simple and only requires a few materials.
Start out with a piece of cord, wire, or string that is a little over a
foot long. Attach beads or charms to either end of the string about
three inches in and crimp them in place. Leave about ten to twelve
inches of string or wire between each end of beads. Cut off any excess
string or wire.
Homemade bookmarks make for great gifts, especially when given with an exciting new book!
