Children Making Jewelry

There are many jewelry craft kits made especially for children. These kits have been assigned to groups that are probably appropriate for certain ages. If your child is more coordinated or advanced for his/her age, these numbers may not apply. Some kits come with all the material that are required, while others give you a list of things to collect. Kids love to create things. They started creating when they used crayons to make pictures. Some of those pictures can be framed or made into a collage to demonstrate to them how proud you are of their accomplishments.

Jewelry is something for both boys and girls to make. If the boys think they are too manly to wear any jewelry, they can make something for mom, grandma or a nice neighbor. An easy necklace/headband can be made from a scrap of stretchy material that is then threaded through large beads and tied together at the ends. The more stretchy the fabric, the better it is for a headband.

Beads can be made from bread dough, painted and threaded onto string or cord. Clay beads are popular too and can be colored to coordinate with outfits. Pins can be easily made by gluing a fastener to the back of the design. The design can be a readymade shape intended for appliqué. Refrigerator magnets only require self adhesive magnets on the back. Velcro comes with both parts self adhesive and could make an easy closer for a necklace.

Kids have great imaginations and helping them achieve their ideas is the nicest gift an adult can give them.
