Jewelry Design Instructions

Making your own jewelry can be fun, entertaining, and easy. It can be pretty simple, also, if you have the right instructions and items to work with.

To start out, pick a particular area to concentrate on, such as drop or dangle earrings. Once you have picked the item you want to use, the teaching and learning process takes only a few minutes, and basic jewelry making is very easy to learn. Children from age seven up can do very well with supervision. As far as adults are concerned, making jewelry can be very therapeutic. Making jewelry should be done in a quiet atmosphere, where it can be soothing, relaxing, and even meditative for the mind.

You will need round nose or chain nose pliers, a wire cutter, two headpins, and two wires for ears that are pierced or clips with a loop for non-pierced ears. These come in surgical steel, gold or silver plated, 18k or 14k gold, and sterling silver varieties. Next, pick out different matching items, such as beads or gemstones, in any color, shape, or material that strikes your fancy. From this point on, it comes down to following the directions, which usually have many pictures to follow and will help to complete the project rather easily. Once you have mastered the basics, then you can progress to other areas of jewelry making, such as necklaces in many different and unusual styles or bracelets in which you can really let your imagination go wild with more lavish materials. In the end, you're only limited by time, patience, and the breadth of your own imagination.
