Supplies for Creating Jewelry

The world of handmade jewelry is an extensive one. You can make jewelry out of precious metals, stones, precious gemstones, semi-precious gemstones, and even beads. If you can imagine it, then it’s highly probable that you will find the answers for your jewelry supplies needs.

Since there are so many different ways to make jewelry, this article has been narrowed down to discuss one particular type of jewelry design, bead work. Whether you want to design bead jewelry as a hobby or you want to go on to be a professional, you will need the following supplies: measuring tape; a pair of small scissors; a beading board (helps hold beads in place to keep them from rolling round while your in construction); baggies to hold different beads; a pair of needle nose pliers; hypo-cement glue; knotting tweezers; pipe cleaners; wire cutters; fabric tape; and a bead reamer to use if one of your non-glass beads has blockage. You can choose from memory wire, soft flex wire, string, or silk to use to string your beads on.

Now that you have all your supplies to make bead jewelry, it's time to go out and find the beads. You can look at your local fabric stores or you can go bead hunting online. Be prepared to find beads in every shape, color and size. When you buy your beads, store them in labeled baggies. This makes them easy to find and sort through when you need a specific one. Don’t forget the lesson book, or you can check out a how to bead video on the Internet.
